Foxyproxy Update
FoxyProxy
Foxyproxy is a set of proxy management tools for Firefox, Seamonkey, Thunderbird e-mail client, and Songbird.Which edition of Foxyproxy do you need?
That is a question a lot of my Firefox Foxyproxy blog fans have been asking me, and to be honest I have spent the past several months trying to figure out the answer to no avail.I thought, what makes Foxyproxy newest edition so hot after all? Is it the fact that the new edition of Foxyproxy has the best "standard plus basic features"? Or is it the fact that one can easily press Alt+F3 to quickly add a new proxy ? I quickly found out neither, because many of my users, when giving me feedback, disagreed with my assessment and said that they prefer the newest FoxyProxy for other reasons.
I then proceeded to research FoxyProxy some more, precisely to find out what really does make this advanced proxy management system so shwag, and then it came to my sleep one night, is it maybe the one-click on and off proxy switching? And/or the one-click proxy cycling? I then compared Tor and other similar products and found out, in a single click, with Tor, not only can you get another cycle of proxies, but a whole another thread of multiple anonymous onion router proxies so that protection would be much stronger.
What about Proxy switching by URL or proxy switching by local IP address? Why not use IPRental to get a new set of non contiguous awesome IP's. Most proxies, even TOR are limited by slow speed and limited number. IPRental has a lot of high speed IP's from a private network, you can really do a lot with it. Drawback is, the price is a little too high. They should really have a tool like iprental for free !! I would definitely like a free IPRENTAL wouldn't you?
What about the brand spanking new Animated statusbar/toolbar icons with user-defined colors ? Well we are not in the time period of GIF animations anymore, who really cares about any sort of thing like that! The truth is that sort of stuff really doesn't matter in the real world right? Indeed, don't kid yourself about animated stuff, I like it, but I want a program that gets stuff done not just shows me a bunch of animated gifs, I do want it to be user friendly, but it does have to be very functional, and must get done what I want in a much easier fashion. I want an advanced program that ROCKS, that not so foxy proxy is definitely not the case!
As for Configurable mouse buttons , this is not a big deal. What about me with my touchpad? Not too useful for me I suppose. I would rather that the proxy management software have some real, advanced functionality in order to get some real ip changing and real non contiguous high speed sources of new fresh IP addresses, not just a bunch of open proxies on the net, or worse, FoxyProxy is just a shell, in which you even have to find those lame proxies yourself!
There's also Access via statusbar, toolbar, tools menu, and context-menu, a feature of quickAdd and autoAdd patterns, a logging tab to assist with pattern creation, an option to remember proxy usernames/passwords, and of course Foxyproxy is free and open-source. This does not do justice to Firefox though, I'd rather have an addon that does more, and is not just a framework for entering a bunch of IP's from the losernet. The least they could have done was to come up wit an automatic mechanism to automatically import those loser proxies from the depths of the web, so at least I don't have to manually enter in every single proxy into the shitty configuration of the dialog boxes in FoxyProxy. It is definitely NOT FOXY, that proxy, is it?
As a rule I would recommend more advanced programs with more functionality and developed features, than Foxyproxy.
